Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell (born in New York City) is an American television journalist, commentator and anchor for NBC News based at Washington D.C. Mitchell holds a bachelor's degree in English language from University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell started her career as a journalist at KYW Radio and TV, Philadelphia in the year 1967. In 1976, she was a CBS affiliate WDVM-TV. (then WTOP in Washington DC). In the following two years, she was hired by NBC News as a Washington reporter. The year 1980 marked the beginning of her coverage of the White House. 1988 became the chief congressional journalist. She was named the chief White House correspondent in 1992 and chief foreign affairs reporter for NBC News in 1994. Mitchell was a host and panelist in the TV news show Meet the Press. She was on the panel during the presidential debates in 1988 in the debate between George Bush and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell got married to Alan Greenspan the former chairman of Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was awarded the Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism in 2005, which was awarded by the John F. Kennedy School of Government. The Radio-Television News Directors Association awarded Mitchell Leonard Zeidenberg the award in 2004 for her role in defending First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell reported on for the White House first for NBC News between the years 1981-88, which was between the terms of Ronald Reagan's second term as president. She has covered several notable reports over the years, including the tax reforms, budget reforms as well as an investigation into the Iran Contra saga. She traveled frequently along with Reagan as well as Mikhail Gorbachev to world summits.
